District Sobriety Court
Novi
The
52-1 District Court in Novi is a DUI Drug Court that targets repeat and high
risk drunk driving offenders, who as a group, are at high risk of committing a
drinking and driving offense. The goal of
Sobriety
Court
is to reduce alcohol related offenses in this group and to reduce alcohol and
drug use generally. The overall program capacity is about 175 participants. All
three judges participate in Sobriety
Court
and actively support the drug court model. Each of the Sobriety Court intensive
probation officers are limited to a maximum of 35 cases supervised in the
intensive phase and are responsible for the continuation of supervision of
participants in the aftercare phase. Three full time probation officers,
designated as Sobriety
Court
intensive probation officers, manage the Sobriety
Court
caseload. The role of the probation officer has been strengthened and empowered
in this model.
