The 15th
District
Sobriety Court
is designed to address alcohol abuse amongst drinking drivers within the
jurisdiction of Ann
Arbor,
Michigan. Sobriety Court particularly addresses
repeat offending drinking drivers and those first time offenders who are alcohol
abusers or addicted to alcohol and other drugs. Our program capacity is 100 - 120
clients; at present there are currently 45 clients. Staff consists of one probation agent
assigned to Sobriety
Court
on a full time basis. Our program is a team approach to address a very serious
personal and social problem.
The
team consists of The 15th District Court judge, sobriety court
coordinator/probation agent, county prosecutor, city attorney, defense lawyer,
prevention services, and treatment provider. The mission of the 15th
District
Sobriety Court
is to reduce the incidence of drunk driving by providing a program utilizing
intensive probation and judicial supervision for misdemeanor offenders who are
chemically dependent or who are abusing alcohol or other drugs. The Sobriety Court Program is intended
as an alternative to incarceration and will utilize judicial supervision and
coordinated treatment services with graduated sanctions for accountability. The goal is to support the recovery of
offenders charged with OWI so as to reduce the rate of
recidivism.
